Rik Basu

When a young Bengali boy features in the FIFA World Cup Finals, that’s news- BIG news. And that is what happened when “Wole Wole”, a song composed and sung by Rik Basu won the “Sing For Football” contest organized by Sony TV, commemorating the FIFA World Cup 2018. To hear the song blast through the PA System in the Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow during the Finals has been a very proud moment for Rik.

From Classic Rock and soulful numbers, to present day Bollywood songs- Rik’s genre encompasses a very larger spectrum. His capacity to entertain is limitless. He was only 19, when Hariharan called him, “Rik, the Rocker”. After his performance of “Barso Re” on Zee SaReGaMaPa, Sadhana Sargam, Harhiran, Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu were awestruck with disbelief that one could actually sing the song live on stage like Rik did.

Rik owes his early music training to his Late father, Goutam Basu, whom he lost at a very tender age. From the age of 15 he started competing in various reality shows. In a very close Grand Finale, Rik was judged the 1st Runner-up of Zee Bangla SaReGaMaPa, 2014 Season. In the process he impressed the legendary singer Asha Bhsonsle with his rendition of “Tumi Kato Durey” and “Shono, Ei To Samay”- two evergreen compositions of R. D. Burman. When Asha-ji blessed Rik by saying, “Tum bahut barhiya singer ho!”, it was the most memorable moment of his singing career.

Anwika”, Rik’s first Bangla Adhunik album was released in 2013, a year before his SareGaMaPa Season. He has several music albums to his credit, notable among them is “Hok Na Kotha” (Asha Audio, Music Raktim Sen) that is a best seller even in the USA. His recent release, “Dil Ki Gullak” from Bollywood serial, “Baarish 2”  has also become very popular.

Rik travels extensively in India for concerts and recordings. He has performed in the USA, Canada and Bangladesh on numerous occasions. He has featured as a playback singer for several films, including, Sesh Chithi, Ei Shohore, Protaghyat,and a handful of Zee original movies,

Rik is also a very talented composer and lyricist. His popular compositions include “Tomake Khunji” (Vocal: Rik), “Tujhe Pyaar Pyaar Karta Hoon” (Vocal: Rik), Tu Saath Mere (Vocal: Anwesha Dutta) and Chokher Dekha (Vocal: Anwesha Dutta). These are all YouTube chart-toppers. He has just completed recording the playback tracks for a Bengali movie with singers Nakash Aziz and June Banerjee.

Rik is a First-Class Graduate from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata in English (Hons). He is regular as a guest on Radio TV and has a large fan following on social media and YouTube where his songs have been viewed by millions.
